University of Pittsburgh Recreation and Wellness Center: EDG
“Will anchor student life activity in a high-performance building dedicated to fostering well-being.”
University of Pittsburgh’s new wellness center embraces well-being from celebrating spaces for recreation, fitness, mental health, and academics. The building connects the upper and lower parts of the campus with the site’s distinctive topography. The transparent façade enhances campus connectivity between the indoor and outdoor environments. This design aims to foster a sense of openness and accessibility, supporting both physical and mental wellness. The university's dedication to sustainability was a driving factor for this project. LEED Platinum Certification is a primary project goal along with implementation of sustainable practices such as green roofs, photovoltaic (PV) system, hillside ecology restoration, complete stormwater management (reuse/infiltration), and ADA compliant access along the exterior hillside terrain (Panther Run).
